Pain and rehabilitation care in Tabriz, for patients outside Iran.
This page is for visitors and Iranians living abroad who are thinking of being seen by Dr. Alireza Rahimi, a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist with a pain fellowship in Tabriz. It explains what to collect before you come and how to reach the support team.
Before you travel
Gather what you have. Clear copies or phone photos are fine to start with.
- MRI, CT and X-ray reports and, if you have them, the images themselves on a disc or as a download link
- Any nerve and muscle test (EMG or nerve conduction) reports
- The report of any surgery on the area
- The names and dates of earlier injections, and how much they helped and for how long
- What physiotherapy or rehabilitation you have had
- Every medicine you take now, especially blood thinners, and your allergies and other long-term conditions such as diabetes
- A short timeline: when the problem started and what has been done since
- For rehabilitation after a stroke or nerve injury: the hospital discharge summary
The way to send these documents is still being confirmed. For now, call the international support line: +989302272111

Practical questions
Can a treatment plan be made from my records alone?
No. Your records help the doctor understand your situation, but a plan comes after an examination, because the examination is what tells the doctor whether a scan finding explains your pain.
Should I stop or change my medicines before I travel?
No. Do not stop or change any medicine without your own doctor, especially blood thinners or strong painkillers. Bring your medicine list.
How long would I need to stay in Tabriz?
It depends on what you need. An injection needs time beforehand and a short rest afterwards, and an exercise plan takes weeks. The doctor can tell you after the first visit.
I have numbness around the genitals or trouble passing urine. Can I wait until I travel?
Please do not wait. These can be signs of a serious back problem. Get emergency care where you are today. See the list of urgent signs in the guide.
Can I fly straight after an injection?
Ask the doctor before you book your return. You should not drive on the day, and it is wise to leave time in case pain flares for a few days.
What about language, fees and insurance?
These are not confirmed yet and are listed above as awaiting details. Please do not assume anything until they are confirmed.
What number do I call in an emergency?
115 is Iran's emergency number. It works only while you are in Iran. From abroad, use your local emergency number.
Every patient's situation is different; ask your doctor about your own.
